Tour Bow of Fife Scotland

Spent an interesting, though rather overcast, afternoon at Barham House and Garden, Bow of Fife, Scotland. Barham Garden is a small woodland garden with rhododendrons, spring bulbs, trilliums and ferns. Also a summer garden with herbaceous borders and island beds. Part of Scotland's Gardens Scheme.

Barham House near the Bow of Fife, was built by the Maitland family and is named after Lord Barham, who was First Lord of the Admiralty at the Battle of Trafalgar. Captain Frederick Maitland, who's mother built Barham House, was the captain of HMS Bellerophon and was given the charge of transporting Napoleon following his defeat and surrender at Waterloo. It is thought that Captain Maitland may have served under Lord Barham and that the house was named after the lord as a mark of respect.

Tour Scotland Clan Munro Exhibition, Storehouse of Foulis, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. Learn about the Munro Clanlands, their people, history and heritage.

Tour Foulis Castle Scotland on the best Scottish Tours. The lands between mountain and sea to the north of the Cromarty Firth were once part of the great earldom of Ross, a title held by the descendants of the ancient kings of Pictland. Nobody knows the exact origins of Clann An Rothaich, otherwise Clan Munro, but they first appear in the 12th century holding lands that stretched from the outskirts of Dingwall to the Alness Water, a territory known as Ferindonald after their supposed first chief. As vassals to the earls of Ross, their tenure was dependent on the ability to "furnish a snowball if required to do so, at Midsummer." Foulis Castle.
