The lost houses of Scotland. Mavisbank, will be known to BBC viewers from the first series of the hugely successful Restoration. Other featured houses include Douglas Castle, Gordon Castle, Guisachan, Dunglass and Millearne among many others. The lavish photographic content derives primarily from the matchless archive of the National Monuments Record in Edinburgh, but will also draw on Country Life's photographs, local archives, and even the remarkable albums taken by a Perthshire demolition contractor in the fifties as he sought to memorialise his handiwork in dynamiting country houses. Hi Sandy
ReplyDeleteI am an Australian who toured Scotland in 2005. Regarding 'Lost Houses of Scotland' Guisachan is certainly worth a visit! The ruined mansion of Lord Tweedmouth is the setting for a rich history. It's also a very spooky place. I took a photo there with spooks in it. You can see the photo, and you can read about my researches into that spooky place, at my blog:

Next time your at Guisachan, watch out for the spooks!
