Spent an interesting, though rather overcast, afternoon at Barham House and Garden, Bow of Fife, Scotland. Barham Garden is a small woodland garden with rhododendrons, spring bulbs, trilliums and ferns. Also a summer garden with herbaceous borders and island beds. Part of Scotland's Gardens Scheme.
Barham House near the Bow of Fife, was built by the Maitland family and is named after Lord Barham, who was First Lord of the Admiralty at the Battle of Trafalgar. Captain Frederick Maitland, who's mother built Barham House, was the captain of HMS Bellerophon and was given the charge of transporting Napoleon following his defeat and surrender at Waterloo. It is thought that Captain Maitland may have served under Lord Barham and that the house was named after the lord as a mark of respect.
