The wonders of the Cuillin mountain range can be explored - where there is excellent hiking and climbing and makes a fantastic day out for keen walkers - and boat trips can be taken to see otters, dolphins and whales. For whiskey lovers, then a visit to the Talisker Distillery is a must. Organised tours of the distillery can be taken, with the ultimate finale being the tasting of the local firewater. For a true taste of Gaelic culture, the Skye and Lochalsh Festival which takes place over two weeks in mid-July is an event not to be missed. There is something for all age groups to enjoy, and local attractions include Dunvegan and Armedale castles, (the latter is home to the Clan Macdonald Visitor and Activity Centre) as well as ancient brochs dotted around this mystical island. For alternative days out, then boat trips to the Outer Hebrides can be taken via a ferry from the mainland nearby.
