James Stewart is one of those minor poets numerous in Scotland, of whom little is heard, despite their merit, when their day is past. His name is barely remembered even in the "wee bit tounie o’ Dunkel’," where he lived for many years, and to the description of which with its scenery and people he gave his best work. Yet many of his sketches and poems are worthy of remembrance, if only for the faithful portrayal of character and beautiful surroundings. Read more.
