At 7.30pm, on January 4th, 2007, at the AK Bell Library in Perth, Fred Freeman returns to Perth to talk about Hamish Henderson and to share the songs he wrote and inspired. Hamish Henderson, locally born but powerfully associated with Edinburgh where he set up the University’s School of Scottish Studies, is a man it is impossible to pigeon-hole. As a poet, song-writer, collector of Scottish stories and ballads, soldier, academic – he was one of the great cultural figures of 20th century Scotland. His influence, though, reached far beyond this country with people as diverse as Bob Dylan and Nelson Mandela recognising a debt to the man.
