
Where the Pennine Way drops into Kirk Yetholm, a small cottage stands by the wayside. Oddly at first glance, it flaunts the grandiose name The Palace. Although strangers may suspect an ironic joke, the cottage and its name commemorate an ancient, tangled strand of Scottish history, for this was the home of the Yetholm gypsy rulers.
