Scottish Hotels, restaurants, and online shops, that post glowing reviews about themselves under false identities could face criminal prosecution under new rules that come into force next year. The Times of London has reported that the new regulations will come into force from December 31, 2007. Online consumer reviews are playing an ever greater role in shaping travel and shopping habits, with websites such as Tripadvisor being seen as increasingly influential. The new laws are part of a European-wide overhaul of consumer protection laws, and I welcome them. Anything that helps the traveller find honest and relevant information should be applauded by all Scottish Bloggers.
